The Digidesign Digi 001 is digital audio workstation with MIDI. It includes both Pro Tools LE music production system and the rackmountable breakout box with a PCI Card that will work with Windows and Mac systems. The unit runs at 24-bits 44.1k or 48k sample rates.

It comes with two XLR inputs with mic PreAmps, a gain control and 48V phantom power. This reduces the need for an an external mixer. There are 6 more analog inputs that are 1/4" inputs. Also included are 8 channels of ADAT optical that can be configured as 2 channel optical SPDIF. For MIDI there is a MIDI I/O port that is syncronized to the audio for accurate playback and recording and footswitch jack that allows you to punch in and out. If that's not enough you have two monitor outputs, a headphone out that has its own volume control.

The system software included in the package is Pro Tools LE that you can use to record can playback audio and MIDI information as well as use Audio Suite (RTAS) plug-ins. The system now supports WinXP for both hardware and software. The Digi-001 also includes an upgrade path for upgrading to Pro Tools TDM bassed systems. The software is easy to use and the learning curve is fairly mild. Not compatible with Celeron chipsets.

That is pretty expensive for a 001. $250 and it would have sold by now, maybe. ;)

There's one on my local Craigslist that's not moving at $220.

$200-250 depending on condition seems to be a fair price these days. Amazing how the price has fallen on some of this stuff.

the market is a little flooded with them these days. i understand that people are taking advantage of the digi upgrade program and being told not to bother sending their 001's in, so there are a ton on the used market.
