Hey,

I'm currently in the process of doing some studio changes as far as the software and the hardware goes. I am going to switch from cubase to protools but I wanted to know , will it be going to use the digi 002 rack as the mic preamp and is it going to be going for me to signal my tracks through it from my Motif and my MPC?

I'm not really sure what you are asking...

anyway, I use the Digi 002 rack and be happy to answer your questions but I'm kinda puzzled what you really mean. Can you rephrase your question?

oh sorry , after reading my post I now relize how bad that sounded lol.

Anyway , I heard bad and good things about the Digi 002 rack preamps and my question was will it be wise to use the preamps to record my vocals and/or If I wanted to input my sounds from the MPC or my Motif will it also be wise to use the Digi 002 rack to do that.

I have another question too, How would I go by hooking my effect processors into the Digi 002 such as compressors and etc.

preamps are a matter of taste. some people like them, some people bitch about them. if you end up not liking them you can always buy another external preamp and patch that into the 002 instead.
Your MPC and Motif can be controlled through the MIDI ports and then bounced down into Pro Tools using the Line out of the devices into the 002.

as far as external gear (compressors, etc.), buy some insert cables for the 002, correctly set up the Inserts in Pro Tools, and you'll be able to use your dynamic processors. For time based gear, get some 1/4" cables and you can send your tracks out of the 002 using aux sends....sending the signal through the outputs and returning to the inputs (monitoring on an Aux Track)

Maybe you allready know that, but at www.digidesign.com you find all the specs of the Digi 002rack.

As you can see it has 8 line outputs and another 8 through ADAT, so no problem conneting outboard gear! (it also has SPDIF in/out)

About the preamps: they may not be top of the range but you can make great recordings with them.

Ok cool thanks for the help .. I understand all that now...

I have another question its nothing im serious about but I was wondering, I noticed that the Control|24 was able to hook up into the 002 Rack , but I didnt know how that works.. (new to protools) ... I seen somewhere where you need all those cards and stuff but wasnt sure.. So how does that work with the 002 rack, If any of you do not mind answering thanks.

you really don't need the Control|24. It's a controller for PT that contains preamps on it. In order to actually use the preamps you need a card that has a DSub connector on it...which the 002 doesn't. It controls Pro Tools, though, through a normal ethernet connection.

The Control|24 is normally used with HD units. If you're interested in a controller there are several other ones to choose from that are also a lot cheaper. Mackie makes the Control Universal, Tascam makes the FW1884...and there's others.
