I've heard that ProTools will only allow you to record while using Digidesign soundcards. I want to use ProTools LE software but would rather not use the MBox in favor of a better (and less expensive) sound card.

Is it true that if I were to use non-digidesign hardware to record on PT it wouldn't work???

and on a side note...

if I were to record on another program (Logic, for example), what problems would I encounter if somebody tried to open the tracks I recorded recorded on their ProTools LE?

no, Pro Tools will no work without the hardware
you shouldn't underestimate the mbox though. small, and portable with 2 focusrite preamps.

They can import the audio files without any problem.

Off course, they can't open the Logic Session.

Just go with the MBox

Nope. Digi software only plays nice with Digi hardware. Just think of it as an extra special dongle...

The only trouble with importing files from another program is that you will lose all your timing information- nothing lines up the way it was recorded UNLESS each file begins at the same time. I had to export one track at a time in Cubase to transfer my old work into Pro Tools.

Take care,
Chris
