i was on another bbs and this guy is talking about scsi drives and how they are the best. so when i posted i made a comment about what he said:

THE GUY:

"I know someone else runnin' IDE with basically the same system and it takes them 5 minutes to open a song......it takes me 2 seconds. "

CZAR:

"damn.....i use a scsi burner for my roland thats about it. 5 minutes to open a song????? ROFL!!!! my songs pop right up."

THE GUY:

"Plus, most of the professionals I know are runnin' SCSI also......cats with 30-40 years experience."

CZAR:

"i know cats that have 30-40 years experience who dont even use computersand the music they do will always shine because its NOT what you have its HOW you work it and WHO works it."

BLUE BEAR DO YOU USE A COMPUTER? just curious.

so anyway look at what this guy says to that. this might offend some of you.

Soooo.......you would be an IDE proponent? Have you used both? I have......SCSI is much faster.

THE GUY:

"So your buddies are still recording to tape? Is it 2 inch? And I would like to argue the "its NOT what you have its HOW you work it and WHO works it" comment. Because that's a damn lie. You can't have some Mickey Mouse shit and make it sound like some pro shit........to each his own though."

ok............

now i never said that. but MICKEY MOUSE cant sound like a PROFESSIONAL if he doesnt know what the hell a pan knob is.

i read in electronic muscian(cant remember which issue) that 85% of PROFESSIONAL RECORDINGS(COMMERCIAL RELEASE) have been taken from 2 inch reel.

also i have read of SEVERAL recordings(commercially released)that have used a shure 58(not the best mic) for vox.

i know im bizarre but this guy is WEIRD.......

so WHO on this site uses TAPE and WHO on this site doesnt work with a pc or mac?

CZAR

ps i almost forgot i told the guy this

CZAR:

"if you would like more info on this hit www.artistpro.com or www.homerecording.com as many PROFESSIONALS are on those sites."

SO IF HE COMES HERE TEAR HIM TO SHREADS GRRRRRRRRRRR

Aw, c'mon Czar!

Didn't someone here (I think it was Ed) say that it doesn't matter what your skills are, just buy the latest pro gear and your stuff will sound great?

Hold on a sec...I gotta go- the latest truck from Mercenary Audio is here. Hey, while I'm gone, check out my "3 Chords Played Poorly at 64bits/320mhz!" post in the Clinic and tell me what ya think- I think I need to add more compression plugins to the reverb on the left bass track or somethin...

Czar - I do use a computer - for video editing, digital audio editing, sequencing, and transfers. I have 2 fast hard drives and they are both IDE (7200rpm). It takes only a second or so to load a song... video is equally fast..... I have NO IDEA what that guy is talking about - sounds like "talking for the sake of talking" to me!

Bruce

I'm not too sure what the fuck he's talking about either. I can open a 24 track 24 bit/ 44.1kHz project in less than a minute. 48kHz just a little bit longer. Maybe he just likes to say "scuzy".
Scuzy. That's a funny word. Can you say "scuzy" with me? :D

lol!! this guy is crazy. i know im not a grammy award engineer but with TIME i WILL be BETTER than BLUE BEAR
(j.k). seriously this cat is REALLY bizarre.

take a look at what he said today:

THE GUY:
We both know that the only analog shit worth anything are the 2 inch tape recorders......and those are a dying breed as well. I would take hard disk recording over analog tape any day

now im sure MANY people on this board will disagree with that comment.

take a look at this comment:

THE GUY: "Don't nobody master shit to 2 inch reel......how are you gonna send in a 2 inch reel to get duplicated? Not only that.....I've never heard of anybody walking into a mastering facility with a 2 inch reel asking to get the shit mastered"

:o i had to show him this

CZAR:heres an EXCERPT FROM THE GEORGE CLINTON SAMPLE SOME OF DISC SAMPLE SOME OF D.A.T SAMPLE CD Sample will come from the vast archives of unrelleased Gorge Clinton material. All the material be taken from the original 2 inch-24 track master tapes

ok im not sjoko or regebro. however i know that MANY projects must have been mastered from tape. thats obvious.

my main thing is just because it has bells and whistles and cost $5,000,000 doesnt mean you will get a 5 million dollar sound.
i admit if i was placed behind a pro tools setup( a BIG one) or a NEVE i would probably freeze up or make MANY mistakes. now you place bruce or sjoko behind the same equipment and they will blow waaaaaaaaaaaay past me because they are EXPERIENCED. thats life and i know im still learning but i know for a fact that i can have the BEST mic in the world but how am i gonna capture the vocalist if i dont know how to tilt it off axis or if i dont practice proper mic location?

this guy is nuts. in fact is it possible that this thread can be moved to dragons cave?

do ANY of you guys still use TAPE machines or MASTER to tape?

good day people

Czar, I attend classes at Recording Institute of Detroit which is also known as The Disc.At the disc they have everything from SSL 4000G/2" 24 track Otari MTR80 to Adats, DA88's, Yamaha 02R,Tascam TMD8000,Pro Tools, etc. In Recording techniques 1 and 2 we mainly used 02r/DA88's digital during class but now in the advanced class we are going over 2' tape. Many people are still using 2' tape and that's a big selling point for the disc not to mention the SSL board and of course the tracking rooms and last but not least Bob Dennis senior instructor/senior engineer who is the most valuable piece of equipment they own.2" tape is great and the machines cost around 25 g's but it all comes down to one thing.THE ENGINEER!!!If I had one tenth of his knowledge I'd be considered a genius.Believe or not this man got his start at motown records back in the 60's as a mastering engineer where of course back then mastering was a different ballgame.Basically, your abilities determine the final results.Bottom line is cost Adat preformatted 60 min. tapes $10/12.00 ea. where as 2" tape 15 minutes worth well over $100.00.Most musicians who book studio time factoring in the cost for studio time and tape would opt for the adat or hi8 format versus a big name client with alot of resources they love to eat up that 2" tape and can afford the cost's associated with that format.

No shit about the 2" tape. Don't get me wrong,I love my blackface adats and hard disk editing, they have allowed me to do more for less investment than I would have ever thought would be possible.BUT,if i hit the big one in the lotto,I would have a Studer 827 and an SSL G series feeding a 1/2" mixdown machine in a heartbeat.........I read somewhere a while back(can't remember where) that something like 80% of billboards' top ten are still recorded on 2" machines........................L

LOL. If I won the lottery, I think I would have 2 Studers, a 2" 16-track and a 2" 24-track... but I wouldn't get an SSL. Mine would be ALL NEVE BABY!
