Has anyone here ever heard of RCI Music Promotions out of nashville, tn?

Thanks

No, I've never heard of them.

Let me ask you a couple of questions...

Did they send you something out of the blue? i.e. you did not contact them first?

Have you recenty pitched something somewhere?

Copyrighted something?

Do they offer to shop your music for a fee?

Steer clear if you answered yes to any of the above.

Just a hunch.

brad .. you asked, did they offer to shop my music for a fee? My answer to that is yes. My question is: What is an easier way to get your music shopped around if you don't hire a promoter and don't have the man power? I just wanted to check their credentials before we go into business with them.

any input is greatly appreciated!

You answered the one question I should have written differently!!

The question should have been - Did they offer to shop your music for a fee without ever hearing your stuff?

Even still, if you've got somebody interested in your music, the fee they charge should be contingent on whether they make you any money. If they say "Give us $300 and we will shop your music to all of the artists/agents/managers/etc. in Nashville" that is not the way to go. I could do that. You could too.
If you sent your stuff out to some people and they are offering to promote/shop you based on a percentage of any deals they bring you, that sounds legit.

Definitely do some more searching around on this company B4 send money. :D

we did send them a cd to review and they sent us out a contract. like you said they did ask for a fee upfront. so you say this is no good? we should pay them on what business they bring us?

I am in Nashville. I think somebody asked me about these guys last week.

Do you have an address for them? I believe this guy mentioned that they were on Music Row, but I went to their site and couldn't find anything that told me where they were.

Of course, I could be thinking of the wrong company. Put more info down and I'll see what I can find out for you.

Also, you might want to take a look at www.geocities.com/songshark for some good info on common music industry scams. Not to say these guys are a scam, but your BS detector is definitely going off, so I think you'll find it interesting.
