I've got a band and we'd like to make some demo recordings ... would it sound ok if we just recorded at the same time and place screens between drums and amps, send it trough a mixer and record everything on MD or PC. We use a berhinger mixer (dunno which one) and have some decent micz (sm57, E835, ...) .
p.s. we only exist for like a year and a half and have only 12-13 songs or smth. --> quality doesn't have to be great, we just need a demo so we can settle some gigs 'n stuff :)

I'm assuming you're not going to track the different instruments, just mix them "on the fly" and record the mixed stereo track. It's going to be very tough to get a half-way decent sound, but it's not impossible.

There are a few ways you could go about doing it. IMO, I'd forget the screens and deaden the room instead (but it all depends on the room) - let the mic bleeds work for you, not against you. You're going to need a ton of mics and a lot of time to experiment with mic placement, levels and pans, etc... You're going to have to test the hell out of it to see what works best.

I'd record into the PC (forget the MD unless you don't have a choice). You can do some final quazi-mastering and off you go.
