Just another rolling off the production line ... and I'm finally closing in on wrapping this one up for good:

Deeper as it goes

Some here might have heard this before, but it features new vocals done with the new Portabooth I bought (reduces room slap et al), and a totally new mix.

Hope you enjoy ... and thanks in advance for any/all comments.

Best,

Kev-

I really like this one. The mix is very deep and textured--even with a lot going on, everything has it's place. I understand the desire for the wet vox, but it gets a bit lost at times (in the softer parts, obviously).

I love the tone on the guitars--they're really singing. The funky upbeat piano progression is a great contrast to the swirling guitar heavy part. Cool break down right before the middle and I really like the back and forth between the synth and the guitar near the end.

Cool, cool stuff! :D

I've still some vocal leveling to attend to on this ... as it does dip slightly below the bed on and off.

This was a first swing at this ... and I've probably got a couple other revisions in me before I can call this one finished.

My problem these days is finding the time ... work has been overwhelming my schedule.

Thanks for the two! Much appreciated!

Nice, the vocals could use a little bit more of tweaking to fit better. Otherwise I really like it. During the funky bit it felt a bit empty at times though.

What type of piano you use?

Hey SF ...

This piano is a plug ... Steinberg The Grand II

I'm still attempting to fill the void here. I like the verses pretty much, but the chorus flow isn't quite where I want it yet.

First on the docket is a redo of the chorus vocal.

I'm loud, and I believe I was overloading the mic slightly as I performed. It's one of those tough things to catch, because when I'm performing, I'm focused on performance and not on engineering.

Yet ... as I've been leveling the vocals and soloing them, I notice the shadow of distortion occurring when I get loud in the chorus ... lending sort of an annoying grating tone to them.

I'm going to lay some other tracks down tomorrow and correct the sound ... and then I'm going to try to better the flow of the arrangement through the chorus.

very cool, very experimental...
that funky part reminds me of Steely Dan, I don't know ....(meant as a compliment ;)) Voice is a little lost, pity because it's really good. sounds a bit muffled to me. Otherwise the recording sounds quite well balanced and overall the song arrangement is very good. Nice work!

Cheers
Joe :)

Good mix of the instruments. The kick gets lost a lot. Maybe just boost it a little. The lead guitar at the end get's buried under all the stuff on top of it. The vocals don't work for me. During the slower parts, that warbly chorus effect is sort of distracting. During the funky part, the vocals seem kind of middy and boxy. They lack low end presence and some high end sibilance. Your "S" and "T" sounds don't shine through. The vocal levels are all over the place too. The performance is very good though, so some tweaks in the mix can probably fix all of it. Very interesting song and a cool arrangement with lots of stuff.
