Hi all, this is a new track from a project I am working on called "The Universe Divide". I played all the guitars, my friend tracked the bass and Metalhead programmed the drums. This is my first round of mixing so I am sure there will be some tweaks. Any comments or feedback are greatly appreciated and as always taken into consideration. Thanks in advance

Pretty cool tune man...it's wild...I like it. Some good sounds there...I got no mix comments for ya, as it sounds pretty decent to me. Sort of has a Vinnie Moore, Tony MacAlpine vibe....some nice bass sounds in there...carries the midrange well.

Cool stuff man...

I'm not into this kind of music at all but this really is a bad ass song! Great work. Not sure it's very original sounding, but it sure is good!

This sounds really cool. The playing is really cool and tight.

The rhythms are tight. The ending solo and rhythms are very cool. The guitar sound is something I've been wanting to simulate without any success.

Would you care to share the gear info?

Blkdog7 thanks for the listen.

inmyheartx thanks for checking this out. The Rhythm guitars were tracked 4 times. The main two tracks are my Ibanez Rg7621 7 string into a Mesa Boogie Nomad 45 head through a Marshall jcm 900 lead 1960 4x12 cab. Those are panned hard left and right. Then I did another two tracks with the same guitar/cab through my Framus Cobra. Those are also panned hard left and right and then blended in for fullness. The sound is probably 70% Mesa and 30% Framus. I really like the quad tracking technique but really have to take your time and make sure that it is TIGHT across all 4 tracks or it will just end up sounding unfocused and like a wash of guitars. The rest of the chain was a regular old Shure Sm57 into my Soundtracs Solo 24 console.

BigBubba thanks for checking out the tune. See above response for some gear info.

Nicole Thanks for listening!

That's some weak assed shit. It's not heavy enough, and it's waaaay too slow. Especially the kick...My grandmother can play faster 1/64th notes than that. Also, the song has no dynamic changes whatsoever...It reminds a lot of a Bob Dylan folk song in that respect.

Chris, it's amazing...you long ago exited the realm of being able to be helped by me. Nice work all around.

Yeah the rythym guitars sound great. No real drums? I remember a tune you did a while back where you played the drums yourself, and they were pretty damn cool too as I recall

Chris harris thanks for the listen and the laugh man.

BullsHit thanks for listening. I have 3 main projects going on right now. Two of them involve the same drummer and we already struggle to find time to get things going so I thought it best just to work with programmed drums for now. I do play drums but I am in no way capable of performing this type of stuff behind the kit. I can handle classic rock and I am only close to adequate in that genre. Thanks again

You'll be bringing grandma to Jamfest, right? We can do some Slayer.
:D

Nice playing and programming.
This just sounds too fake for me. The drums sound very programmed.
Distorted guitars are nice but a bit too crunchy IMO.

Nice work guys!

Some cool work in this song:) Some un-expected turns etc.
Nice heavy sound. Not sure if the end is finished, but it doesn't sound finished to me.

Sort of has a Vinnie Moore, Tony MacAlpine vibe....
Didn't hear too many neoclassical lines or swept arpeggios in there:confused:

Really like the riffing though and the bass playing is excellent! Nice progressive feel to it. Great drum programming too BTW, good job fellas.

Awesome work guys. Not just in recording and programming (how bloody long did those drums take?!?) but in writing too! I dig the ghostly leads. EBow? Definitely gives it that Opeth vibe. I only have shitty speakers so I can't say too much about the mix. My only real complaint is the lack of vocals. Are they coming?

Nice arranging of the gtrs at 3:30-45, and some tight bass playing at 2:15-27

Just to echo the previous post's, I really dug this...great technical precision in your playing, but not emotionless like some of this genre kinda sounds like at times....very interesting listen, with lots of twist and turns. The end seemed kinda abrupt, but otherwise..thumbs up on a job well done

hey dude, really nice playing. sort of a cross between something like dimmu and opeth, i like. A LOT. ok the mix, the guitars are actually quite good but they don't sit too well cause there's a lot of low-end mud. try letting the bass breathe more by taking out some lower end guitar frequencies. also i think the drums in general are too dry, could get a bit of a bigger sound into them, bring them into the mix cause they are excellent and should be driving the song. i cannot hear the kicks enough, again maybe frequencies clashing. just listened to your track 'noctura - crushing mix' - LOVE those guitars!!! how were they done? (signal chain, kit, mics)

Nice song, Maybe you could clear it up a littlebit with master eq for example?
