ProFire 2626 vs FireStudio 2626

Hey guys, this is my first thread here and I'm hoping I started it in the right category...

As the title of the thread states... ProFire 2626 vs FireStudio 2626. I am looking to buy a high end interface soon and have been reading a lot of reviews on the potential units that I may buy.

One obvious advantage to the profire would be protools... Although I have read that the pres on the firestudio are amazing. Others say that the profire's pres are really good too.. but I wanted to get everyones opinion before I made a decision.

Right now I use Cubase 5 for editing. I've never used Pro Tools.. and obviously the DAW is only as good as the user who is using it, but is Pro Tools really that much better than Cubase? If so, how is the learning curve?

I've also read good things about RME.. but these units seem really expensive compared to the other two I just listed.

Opinions, insight, comments... whatever it be is welcome.
 
the firestudio is a bit cheaper than the profire. ive used a profire once with logic and it was pretty nice, i like the pres, were pretty warm. never used a firestudio (im a firepod owner).


ive used cubase and protools and wouldn't think protools learnng curve is that steep to be honest. it seemed well fairly laid and is pretty nice. though i mainly use logic, as i dont have the cash to shell out for protools and a compatible interface (i also just love logic).
 
I've also been looking at the MR816X. It is around the same price and I hear the pre's are nice.
 
hey man ive had my 2626 for nearly a month now. its a decent unit although im relatively new to digital recording and have only owned a couple of other interfaces. i had a few issues with my computer recognizing it and getting the inputs to show up in the daws at first. there was also some weird buzzing and crackling when i was just playing music back through the interface like a soundcard. i ended up switching out my firewire card and trying other drivers and now its working really well. its very easy to use once its set up, i would almost say its too simple - it doesnt have much metering or other controls its pretty much just knobs and jacks. still it really does have a lot of nice features and the onboard dsp makes live mastering in sessions really easy. id give it a 7/10
