Hi there,
I purchased a new microphone (a professional one that plugs up in the back of the computer) so that I could do home recording from my computer. I also purchased recording software, one of which is Cakewalk. However, when i go to record, there's no sound being recorded in both speakers (computer speakers). the sound is only coming out of one. When i use cakewalk, there's no sound coming out of either speakers. But all other computer sounds, the sound comes out of both speakers. It's just something to do with the professional mic. i've continuously fiddled with all recording levels in Sounds and Audio Devices, but nothing. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks

1. if the mic plugs directly into the computer, it is hardly what I would call a "professional" mic, at least not if music is the profession.

2. 99% of microphones are monophonic. That means, they don't record in stereo. You need to select a mono track in your software to hear the sound equally in both speakers.

3. It sounds like you the software is not recognizing the microphone. You need to make sure the microphone is selected as the input device (if it is connecting via usb, etc.), or if you are running it into your soundcard, the soundcard should be selected as the input device.

Yes, tell us what kind of mic, what kind of soundcard, what kind of port or input you are plugging it into.
