I am thinking about purchasing a computer with AMD Athlon Processor (700 Mhz) running on ASUS K7V Motherboard. However, all of the music software seem to list Pentium as the qualification. Is this because pentiums had been more of a standard? purely from performance speed athlon seems to be faster now, but how is it for music softwares? There seem to be alot said on this, but I have not come across concrete number.

Also, another question... Is there a large difference in capabilities of different sb Lives?...

and finally... what operating systems? windows98 or windows2000?....

Hey Mike,

There is a great online mag at www.prorec.com/
Among heaps of other things it has a column called "Roll your own 2000"
on how to build your own computer for audio.
They discuss IN DEPTH the differences between the two processors you're talking about, and make decisive conclusions about what the rest of the system should be too.
If I was gonna be making decisions like that, that's where I'd be looking.
