I am currently using several analog synths to do multi-track recording.

I am wanting to get some equipment that will enable me to alter and change my sounds in more ways that just flanger and basic effects. What would some of you advise me to get? Something under $400 preferred.

Also, are the processors that only work with MIDI? I saw some em-u units that say they have bulit in sounds, but wouldn't that only work with MIDI?
I am not recording with MIDI, just recording in digital audio.

Thanks.

First, do some reading on what midi is and how it works. Midi is a protocol to let keyboards and sequencers communicate. A typical message is 'note on' or 'note off'. It's all ones and zeros. Adding effects to midi will only cause errors.

The emu modules having builtin effects, this means that you can use these effects on the internal sounds.

And if you want to alter your sounds, what do you mean? Which effects do you have in mind? Phasing, flanging, chorus, delay, reverb, panning, vibrato, pitch shift, filtering, ... All effects...

A nice thing to REALLY alter your sounds is a modular...
www.synthtech.com/motm/ has some quality effects setups, but it'll cost ya...

The SanSamp GT-2 simulates various miked guitar amplifiers. It sounds great with analog and digital synths. Gives them an aggressive sound, real similar to putting them through a miked amp.
