I had SONAR 2 running on my 1.4 GHz Pentium and everything was hunky dorry. I upgraded to SONAR 3.0 and everything went to shit.

I've gone through all the setting changes Cakewalk suggests but still have the following problems:

1 - After recording a track it takes forever for the track outline to appear.

2 - About half the time when I hit the play button, one or more tracks start to stutter.

3 - The program crashes regularly if you try to mouse around too quickly.

I've got two hard drives in my machine and 1GB of ram.

Anyone else have problems with the switch from SONAR 2.0 to 3.0?

The one thing that I had to change on my config going from v2 to v3 was the I/O Buffer Size under OPTIONS-AUDIO-ADVANCED.

The default value was 64 which gave me the same sort of situation you are describing. Increasing this to 256 or 512 fixed it for me.

If you still have grief, it might be worth backing up your AUD.INI file and then deleting it. Let Sonar reprofile your card when you open it back up and re-test from there.

You can try increasing your picture cache size.

Edit this line in your aud.ini file:
PicCacheMB=20

Change the 20 to 100 or higher. If you have a lot of disk space available, 200 is not unreasonable.

Also make sure the picture cache is on your OS drive and not on your audio drive.

I remember reading somewhere that 3 takes more power to run than 2.. besides the tweaks 1.4Ghz might be a little light now?

That's what I was afraid of. I'll try the other suggestions tonight, hopefully I can squeeze a few more years out of this 'puter.
