Problems recording with DM5

I'm using a kick drum trigger along with a DM5. I'm getting some weird digital sounding distortion here and there...it's not clipping on the input into cubase. The output levels from the dm5 aren't too hot. Would a direct box tame the signal? I've tried switching the output volumes but i'm still getting the clicky sounding pops.

The outputs of the DM5 are line level, so a direct box would be pointless. You're probably just recording too hot.

Are you recording at 24-bit?

I'm recording at 24 bit. I've tried adjusting the output of the unit and the input levels into cubase (in the software and on my firepod). It's not clipping on the way in anywhere that I can see.
