Problems recording (lag) with Audigy 2ZS & Win7

Hi guys,

Thanks for going easy on a noob with a big question.

I'm a DJ and I've long used my computer to record mixes. I have an Audigy 2ZS sound card with the front panel RCA inputs. I usually use these inputs (Aux 2) to record from an analog RCA line in.

I recently made 2 upgrades to my system. I changed from XP to Windows 7, and I bought a store copy of Adobe Audition 3, which I was hoping to use to record. Thus far, it's been a world of problems.

I used to use Audacity, and even since making the upgrade to Win7, Audacity was working fine... but I wanted to switch to Audition, and that's when it all went to heck. When I initially started Audition, every time that I'd go into the "audio hardware" and try to figure out what to select, I kept getting weird "ASIO" error messages popping up - and I'm so tech illiterate that I don't even know what ASIO means.

I searched on Google and found someone mentioning that there was a driver upgrade for Audigy 2 on Win7, so I went to Creative's site and downloaded and installed the new driver. Ever since doing that, I've now got two big problems:

(1) I keep getting a crackling and popping noise coming out of the speakers that's also registering on any software that I'm using to record. It seems to come and go randomly.

(2) More importantly, there's now about a half second lag between my input line and what's coming out of my speakers... which makes hearing what I'm doing while I DJ an impossibility.

Upgrading the driver took care of the ASIO errors I was getting on Audition, but this lag that it's created shows up when I use Audacity, Audition, or when I'm just trying to listen to my input line without any recording software at all.

I know NOTHING about what the settings should be - I just keep trying different configurations on my sound card and on my recording software to get something that'll work... and now I'm at an impasse. Is there a buffer or something that I have to defeat in order to hear real-time sound?

Any idea what this lag is that I'm experiencing or how to defeat it? Like I said, Audacity was working FINE before I messed with this new driver, and now it's lag city, PLUS I've got the added fun of these occasional static bursts.

Can anybody help? And please be as gentle as possible with the tech lingo and step-by-step it because I am NOT very computer savvy.

THANKS SO MUCH!!!

That's a pretty old card. I doubt they spent any time optimizing it's driver for ASIO. Try downloading and installing ASIO4ALL. It's a generic ASIO driver. ASIO4ALL - Universal ASIO Driver

Oh yeah. ASIO = Audio Stream Input Output.
