problem with stereo in?

so I was trying to record for my first time using cubase but ran into a problem immediately!

it says I have to select stereo in>left but that is not a choice. the only time right or left is an option is for stereo out.

how do I fix this?

What soundcard do you use and what version of cubase? What are you recording using what hardware? Did you read the manual???

I'm using a Presonus Audiobox- I read the little downloaded manual that shows you how to get started (if you could point me towards something more in depth that'd b great). I set up the audiobox as the ASIO driver and then it says it choose left for stereo in but that's not an option. When I click on it, it just says stereo-in with a check. When I click stereo-out it gives me the option of left or right, so I know something is a little screwy here.

edit: I got that working but now it's not reading what I play. The meter is not showing anything but if I turn the gain up on the audiobox the clipping light will go on when I turn it up too much. what do I do about that?

When you create a new channel, it needs to be MONO not stereo. This will then give you the option of choosing which input you want.

As for making it record properly - make sure you arm the track. Click the little red circle on the track. This will tell the program to "record here". If you have done this, have the right input selected and have the gain set, click record.
