I just got a dmp3 preamp, have an shure sm58 mic, soundblaster audigy ls sound card, was using mic to mic in, now mic - preamp - line in, the vocals def. have a differnt sound, but it seems its one for the worse, the vocals seem more upfront, but something about them.

and what effects should i use in cool edit, i want least amount of effects and best possible quality for what i have. thx again.

The preamp will give you more gain. That is why the new signal sounds more "upfront".

Generally, You use eq and reverb/delay to move a sound forwards/backwards in the mix.

Hope this helps.
