Okay, I bought a used snake recently and am trying to use it to record guitar. I've got the amp in a different room, the cab is miced and the mics run through the snake to my interface. I'm attempting to run the guitar the opposite way through the snake through one of the 1/4" channels. Without the mics plugged into my interface the guitar works great and is quiet, but if I plug the mic channels from the snake into my interface I get a lot of noise coming through the guitar speaker. I can unplug the XLR cables at the mics and the sound stays, but if I unplug them from the interface the noise stops. If I plug the guitar in at the amp (avoiding using the 1/4" on the snake) it works fine, but then I can't play guitar in the other room at my computer. Is there something I'm missing here, is the snake messed up, would it work if I bought adapters and ran the guitar through an XLR channel on the snake?

Rather than putting the guitar signal down one of the snake sends try using a regular old guitar cord. If you say you can't reach a longer guitar cord may be your cheapest and best solution.

Try a DI

Try a direct box. Maybe a balanced signal will work for you...
