Hi,
Can you help?
Recently I made a song and when recording all the tracks going into the mix remained descrete and seperate. But on my next attempt when I come to record track teo that track is not recorded distinctly but is a recording of track one with it too. Each consecutive track is made but with all the others merging into it, too. It's an audacious mess. It's like: Track one - ok track two - a re-recording of track one with the new events of track two track three - a re-recording of tracks one and two + events of three. So the mix ends up terrible and the sounds weak.
Can you tell me what button I have pushed incorrectly?
Is it in through the preamp mixer? Is it through the soundcard?
Thanks.

Be more specific about what you're using to record with and what your setup is and so forth then people can get more specific with a solution.

In the meantime, ten bucks says it's got something to do with your channel assingments within your software. Make sure all your inputs are routed to individual tracks.

Hi,

I was doing a little fooling with a more simple multi track than Cubase and it seems to have the same problem: That each consecutive track is re-recorded along with the newer tracks.
Maybe it's my crappy soundcard a 'SoundMax Integrated Audio.' Maybe it's the Behringer UB802 mixer. The mic goes into the mixer -preamped- out thru the phones socket into the in of soundcard. Then I monitor with phones.
But, these were all working fine yesterday.
In Cubase the input and outlet device is the Soundmax ASIO card.
I don't know, I hope I can work it out. I'd be peed off with A/S this soon.

Not that I know of. I'm not sure how that works. The output is from phones outlet of mixer direct then to the soundcard. Soundcard is basic, one line in (mic), one phones out and another for a (stereo) speaker.
As I said, it was perfect yesterday.
It seems that the soundcard is collecting all of track one and re-feeding that into the main mix... rather than track one just being a 'slave.' For example the output mix in track two includes all of track one as well as a weak input of track two
Anyway, thanks for the assist.

Ok, well then your problem is definitely internal, not with the mixer... somewhere you're creating a recording loop so check (as peopleperson suggested) your track assignments in the software - see where each one is coming from and going to... good luck!

check your windows volume control to see if you have selected "what you hear" as recording source and change it to "line in"
Cheers

GOT IT!
Thanks Dave and People Person and others.
It was a button not on the main Windows volume control but in the Soundmax control. Had to dig around. I must have done something with it within another program earlier. Thanks for you help. Make good sound!
