Ok, so Im not trying to produce professional recordings here. Just something for my band to get decent quality recordings to post and sell demo EP's at a show. So when click on Cakewalk and the program starts working, it says I have no Midi devices selected. Well my computer doesn't have midi on it. And sometimes it says my SoundMAX digital soundcard isn't compatible. So now I'm stuck. Anyone have any possible solutions? Thanks

..

One more thing, when I continue without selecting midi output,(because my soundcard isnt on the list), it wont play back any files.

It just telling you that you didn't finish the setup...not a big deal. You should be able to go in and edit your preferences get that nag off your screen.

If I remember, click Options, MIDI devices, lower left a check box "Warn about no MIDI devices".

Give it a try.

If you are speaking about the sample/tutorial files, they are most likely midi files. If you don't have a midi device or midi-capable sound card, then of course they won't play back.

I believe HS2002 supports DXi's and is supplied with the Edirol VSC DXi or the Dyad DXi. If so, you can use this to playback the midi files in lieu of a hardware midi device.

Maybe I missed something here...

My understading was that you're not wanting to record or playback midi...just audio.

Insert an Edirol VSC track and the MIDI will play. It's not readily apparent that you need to do that, but once you do, voila problem solved.
