problem with audigy2 line in
hi all, heres the prob. well i have a p4 2.4gig,512 ram, audigy2 pc(among other components that are irelivent i think). any time i plug into my line in port on the sound card, wether im just listening to the sound or recording it, it only comes out of the left side. when i go to the mixer window and move the paning slider for the line in on either record or playback, the sound fades to nothing while panning right. now the cords and adapters that i have, im pretty sure are not incorrect cause i have used many different istrument and speaker cables with a few different1\4"-to-1\8" adapters. has anyone else had this problem or heard of someone who has or know how to fix it. your help is greatly appreciated. if you need to know more details please ask.

If you want the signal to come into left and right, you will need an 1/8" TRS(tip ring sleeve)cable to two RCA(phono) plugs.

If you are trying to adapt down a 1/4" guitar cable to 1/8" mono, and go into the line input, this won't work, and is the problem.

For that, try the mic input on the soundcard(though I think that will sound like craip)

Best bet is to get a little mixer or guitar preamp (or mic pre if you are recording vocals, I don't know, you didn't say) to take your wimpy guitar signal up to line level. Then use the first method I said.

hey thanks for the reply. and yes, it does sound like crap through the mic. and ive hooked guitars basses and a semi old peavy board(16 tack i think) which ive run drums and gutar, bass through. maybe it is the little 1\4"-1\8" adapter that be thy culprit. Ill look for one with that TRS you mentioned. do you know if you can get them at radio shack?

absolutely...they only cost a few dollars...I think the kind that has the eighth inch stereo jack on one end of a double RCA cable is easier to use than the one that is just an adaptor.

what do you mean bthiesson

ok, im a little confused by that. first, whats a double rca cable. Does an rca have the red, white, and yellow connections. like what you use to plug a PS2 or x-box to a vcr or tv? if so that wont work for me. I have none of those connections to plug into. only 2 1\4" jacks from the board(or just one-a guitar cable-) and only one 1\8" jack at the sound card.

.....I guess what you need then is an adaptor to put 2 1/4 inch mono plugs into one 1/8 inch stereo plug.

....if you're just running a single cord (guitar cord) you'll still need an adaptor to change 1/4 inch mono to 1/8/inch stereo.
