I have cakewalk and fruity loops 3, but I never knew too much about midi or syncing or anything like that. Then I fumbled upon this post:

I did everything exactly like acgt said, to sync floops and CW. But when I start to record in CW, all I get is this distortion type sound, but it goes in short bursts to the beat. In floops I can see the midi light flashing, and the oscilliscope in floops moves to the distortion. When I change the loop in floops the distortion sound changes (i.e. when i change the pitch, the pitch of the distortion goes up). Can anyone tell me what is happening here and how I can fix it?
