Problem w/488 MKii

I can't seem to pan neither left or right with this stinking thing. I'm trying to record a stereo drum machine on to tracks 1 and 2 simultaneously. Everything plays back mono, and the mono switch isn't on. Also, there's some bleeding onto track 5. I have a 424 and had no problem with the above mentioned process. I double checked all the assign and group buttons. I bought this thing "Reconditioned" from Musician's Friend. What the hell does reconditioned mean? It didn't say that in the product description on the web. Hope someone can help me, or I'm returning it and going digital. How's the Tascam 488-8?.

I bought this thing "Reconditioned" from Musician's Friend. What the hell does reconditioned mean? It didn't say that in the product description on the web.

Reconditioned means that it eas either a repaired factory second, or a unit that had previously been returned under warranty and repaired. If they truly did not disclose this fact to you, return it immediately, and stop payment on your credit card (if you paid with one).
