I have a problem when recoding audio on Cubase.
It is quite hard to explain but i will try and explain it basicly, i have a 2 track audio set up, when i record the 1st with my guitar it works, but when i try and record a second track over that, it re-records the first track aswell. This also happens with songs, e.g. if i am playing a song and want to record just my guitar over the song it will record the song aswell.
How do i solve this?

When recording a certain track, make sure you arm that track for recording. It sounds like you're not arming the second track for recording after you record the first track, and so you are actually re-recording the first track when you think you're recording the second track. Check that out and see if you still have the same problem.

what do u mean by arming the track? It does record what i want but it records it on top of what i dont want e.g the 1st audio i recorded or a song i want to play along to

Each time you record something new you need to open a new audio track. If you try using the same track, then it will record over what is already there. Thats what it is supposed to do.

You can arm the track by simply clicking on the "track box". The track box is armed when you see it light up or it is a different color than the other, unarmed tracks.

If you record on the first track, stop, go to the beginning of the song, and record again, you are re-recording the first track. After you complete the first track, click on the track box for the second track. This arms the second track for recording, meaning whatever sound enters Cubase will be recorded to the second track.

Yes, i do arm the next track but it records whatever is playing through my speakers on top of the guitar, this roblem is really anooying me now lol

I assume you are not micing the guitar? If so... well...

If you aren't micing the guitar, make sure that you disarm the previous track by unclicking the record button. Also, if you are recording to a stereo track instead of a mono track, you might be confusing the second half of the stereo for the mono, but I doubt it.

Sound like there's a loop somewhere. Explain your signal chain. Do you use an external mixer? Are your monitors wired up to the mixer or directly to a soundcard?

That is exactly what it is!!! I cant believe that it took this many post for someone to understand what he was talking about

It sounds like you need to change your 'soundcard mixer' settings. On mine I would change the record input from "what you hear" to line/mic in.

What soundcard do you have?
