Okay, so here's my problem:

I have a Radium61 USB keyboard that I am using with Reason, and for some reason I cannot get any sound to play from Reason using the keyboard anymore (it had worked at one point, but I think my settings got messed up somehow). Reason does operate, and the keyboard does power up via USB, but I cannot get the two to work together. I have tried uninstalling both programs and reinstalling them, and following directions as I've read in both manuals, but I think I am missing one key element here. Does anyone have a clue how to fix this?? I have been unable to use this program for almost 6 months!! Thanks....

Chris

did you remember to run the m-audio drivers everytime it shows a new device???

Which Operating System are you running? Windows 98, 2000, XP, etc...

XP has an auto-detect function for USB devices but the other Windows OS's require drivers.

Radium is not a class-compliant USB device (or if it is supposed to be, windows XP failed to recognize or install either of mine, on 2 seperate computers). Try completely removing the drivers, and reinstalling them. Also the Radium doesn't like to operate if it is plugged into a USB hub, if it is plugged into one try unplugging it and plugging it directly into your USB card or motherboard's USB ports (It will power up via a hub, but usually won't communicate, and I have found this to be true with other USB controllers, such as KORG MicroControl). Hope this helps.

One other thing, are using the version of Reason that came with the Radium? I found that if you are using the Radium as a remote for mixing (via checking that option in the menu), that it ceases to operate as a keyboard. Seems lame to limit the program like that. Try unchecking that option if it is enabled. Also make sure that everything is communicating on the same MIDI channel, etc. (You can get MIDI OX http://www.midiox.com/ which is a great MIDI monitor / patcher / sysex program to view what your Radium is transmitting). Try resetting the Radiums presets if you need to.

I am using Mac OS X (v.10.2.8)

Also, I had the keyboard hooked up to an external port, but at the present it is hooked up to the port that is in the computer itself.

Ah, I will check on the settings in Reason...the mixer settings are something I have not thought to check. Thanks for the idea...I'll play with that tonight at home. Also, if you have other ideas, keep 'em coming.

If you have another USB cable around, try swapping it with the one your using. USB cables are commonly equiped with fragile wire strands, one of them may be broken. You might also try switching USB ports (Preferably one with a seperate host controller) just too help eliminate it being a possible problem with your computers hardware, Drivers, or configuration.

Okay, I went into reason, and I didn't find anything in preferences that deals with external controller preferences. Am I looking in the right place?

Also, I have tried another USB cable, and in all 3 ports in my computer, all to no avail. I know I've gotta be missing something here....thanks again for your help so far!!

OK I think I was wrong here, at least partly. Using MIDI remote for mixing only apperently affects your Knobs and sliders and doesn't actually affect the keys (In XP anyways). And I was thinking of MIDI Remote Mapping in the options menu.

Go into preferences (Bottom of Edit Menu) and select the MIDI page (Usually General is default page). Most anytime you move a USB device from one port to another it requires you to reset your MIDI preferences in your programs (What a pain when you have several USB devices, reconnect one wrong and all devices change...Never Fails). First make sure your controller is selected in the Sequencer section (probably "In 1 USB Keystation") and that it is set to channel 1 (usually), below that is MIDI sync, ignore it for now (Unless you have external gear supplying MIDI Clock). For remote control select your controller (or deselect for troubleshooting purposes). It also wouldn't hurt to check the Disable MIDI Priority Boost option, that might be the culprit.
Beyond that I am not sure what else to try. Does the controller work with other programs. If not, then this is a Keystation failure, or a problem at the OS level. Unfortunately I am not the man to talk to for Macs at that level.

Does it appear in the Audio MIDI Setup utility (in the Utlilities folder in the Applications folder).
