When I open up the MIDI editor and double click on an existing note, I get another note! Double clicking on it, removes it, but I can't delete the note that's in the pattern. So for example, I want to change a particular pattern so that instead of a hi-hat hit, I have a ride hit, I can add the ride hit, but then can only mute the volume on the hi-hat, not delete it.
Also, on one pattern when I tried to mute the kick, I could not get the volume all the way to zero - I can still see a tiny volume bar which won't shrink anymore and I can still hear the kick faintly.
It's got to be something in my settings, but I have no idea what!

For muting, try selecting the note (or notes) then click Alt M, rather than fiddling with the volume bar.

I don't know why you can't double-click on an existing note to remove it. I tried replicating your situation, but couldn't. Double-click adds a note, then removes it.

However, you can simply move the note from hi-hat up to the ride.

Alt-M didn't work, but holding the Alt gets an eraser that erased the kick notes, but wouldn't touch the ones that were muted by volume bar. However, I found that if I hover the mouse over the note, I can drag it into a bar (from the little symbol), then I can delete that. A drum set might be easier to learn!

sometimes I can't select the notes in the midi editor bar (the horizontal one) but i can in the velocity bar (vertical one). once i can select one or the other, i can just hit delete to remove the note i don't want. i don't know what settings it could be. if you figure it out let us know, i may have the same problem.

also, if you just want to move a hh hit to a ride, can you select all the hh and drag them up to the ride? or does that not work for you either?

I haven't tried that, but noticed that if I hover (again) over a note, I can get an up.down aroow to show, an dthat should let me move the note to a different line on the piano roll.

Not sure if this helps you but it sure helped me tonnes...

Change how the midi notes look in your editor. You have the choice of Triangles and Diamonds and it makes it ALOT easier then those stupid defualt bars things. Those were the bane of my existence for the longest time.

I haven't ever had this problem. I am constantly deleting notes all the time? Just pick it and hit delete???

Also not sure if you are aware if you want to move say all your hi hat notes in a loop you can right click (once) on the piano roll note and it will pick all the midi notes in that row and you can then drag them where ever you like.

The more i use ezdrummer the more i love it and find some thing new about it like even more. Same with reaper.

I'll try those tricks. Right now the notes in the factory loops are diamonds, but any I add are bars. The diamonds are the ones that won't delete on me. Where in the preferences do you set what the notes look like?

What I do sometimes is drag the groove over with the HH, highlight the whole string of HH hits and drag them up to the ride key.

the double arrow thing is just so you can make the midi note longer or shorter. for easy drummer it doesn't really matter how long the hit is, for other midi it does.

I've never seen the diamond thing, on mine they're all bars whether I put them there or drag the groove.

This is strange mine have always just been bars? IS this in Reaper?

Page 224 of the Reaper manual Friend. I do not have reaper right in front me at the moment.

I found the place where you can change the format of the note appearnace, but really haven't had the chance to do much more.

Another trick I've been doing that I'm not sure is related, highlight the whole thing in the velocity window, then use the double sided arrow to make all of the midi hits a little bigger. when they're tiny it's hard to work with them, I've found having bigger hits works better.

With the midi window open, and the play head line active somewhere on the screen, hitting the UP arrow key zooms in (horizontally on the time line) and makes all the note symbols bigger (wider), DOWN arrow key zooms out. Holding the mouse over the keyboard on the left and turning the scroll wheel should move the notes up or down. There is a way to mke them bigger vertically, but I don't remember what it is.

If you cannot click once on any note to highlight it, then it is simply too small. Make it bigger (zoom) and click once, then hit DELETE, the note should disappear. That's how Reaper has worked for me from the first install. I think you can hold the ALT key and use the right mouse button to "lasso" any group of notes on the screen. Or click once on any note and drag it (or drag a group of notes) up or down to change its note value (transpose).
