(probably) silly SB live! question.

hey i was just wondering... i have been running a little behringer mixer into the line in on my SB live! and using the pan method to record two mono parts at once.

my question is this:

can the mic in on the SB live! be made into a line in? ie, is it possible to drop the gain of the pre-amp to zero or bypass it?
and, if so, is the SB live! capable of recording through both the line in and the mic in simultaneously? if so i could conceivably get 4 simultaneous recording tracks with the right routing from my mixer....

any help would be greatly appreciated!

A far as I know you can only record two tracks. You have to receive audio through the software mixer on the live - so you won't be able to separate the tracks into your sequencer. On higher end cards the sequencer sees the inputs as separate devices. I don't think even the kxdriver fix this.

The higher end Audigys do have both a "mic/line in" switch and a multitrack fix (asio -> six channel).

Hi Adent!! :)

First of all I hope this message will not generate another never-ending thread about SBLive! :) It seems that the thread where I wrote are all destined to became "1600-views" threads. :)

Adent: you can't record both from LineIn and MicIn simply because the AC97 codec don't let you select more than one source at once.

But if you want more inputs you can consider the SPDIF Ins on your Live. But this require some technical skills and it could be very expensive...

I suggest to buy another Live! (they are cheap now).
Or if you hate the Live just like our friends on the other thread (brzilian, polaris, etc.) consider to buy a card with more inputs.

Can you explain what the other inputs are required for?
Are you sure you really need them?

Another thing: are you using Creative drivers?
If so, switch to KX drivers NOW.

Best Wishes,

Just pointing out something that might not be obvious if you dont know it. MaxB's first suggestion is connected to the second. You will probably not be able to run two lives with Creatives drivers. Kxdrivers is said to support as many lives as you can put in there. Actually I think they support any mix of emu10k-cards. So you might try an Audigy if you prefer. You should try drivers before buying anything though.

which is better? sblive or audigy?

audigy seems to have better stuff but sblive is "tried and true" and due to the audigy2 zs, the audigy 2 is cheap also.....how come people arent changing from sblive as much as others would like them to? i've been using my mobo's ac 97 hookup so i'm trying to figure out where to go from there.....however i do get a pretty good sound out of it
