I downloaded a free version of pro tools to get multi track at once recording features ... but i have WinXP when it only runs on 98SecondEdition and ME ... is there anything I can do?

After some research.....NO not in XP
I think only M-Box has XP drivers

M Box???

Is there anything I can obtain that will allow me to run on XP that gives me a feature where I can record 4 mics at once onto 4 tracks ... unlike Vegas which records 4 mics to one track

Does your sound card allow recording to more than two (1 stereo pair) tracks? If not, $1000 software won't help. Vegas, as far as I know, is fairly professional and should allow you to record on as many tracks at once as you have hardware for. No hardware, no tracks... Steve

i have a 16 channel mixer plugged into an input of my soundcard ...

NO go !!
You need a soundcard interface with multiple inputs to do multiple tracks at once;)
Although you can always track one at a time

Go here for M-Box info

I would find some other software for the moment until you can get a better soundcard. Cakewalk 9.3
I know works with XP. CW home studio I dont Know. Powertracks Pro works with XP.
If you dont plan on using a lot of Plugins and use outboard effects Etc. these programs will work fine.
You could be using that 16 track mixer to a better advantage by getting an 8 track soundcard like Layla,Delta etc. or at the very least a 4 track card. You could track a whole band with an 8 track.
