i was just wondering what are the names of the plugins that pro tools have..and if they would work on a differnt program besides the pro tools program...this might be a dumb question but i really wanna know...thanks!

If you're talking Protools LE (home version), the plugins are in RTAS and AudioSuite formats. RTAS (real time audio suite) are the ones you insert directly on the tracks and use as you would a hardware device. AudioSuite are offline processors that process a file and write the result to a new file.
If you're talking Protools TDM ("professional" version), then they are called TDM format.
As far as I know, you can't use either with other programs

im not sure what pro tools it is...someone told me that he uses protools and it has waves and someother plugins for hes protools and i guess they are protools plugins...well does any one know any good plugins that are vst or directx suitable..im looking for sometrhing better than waves...

A lot of people like the UAD-1 and TC Power Core plugs. You have to buy the hardware accelerators and it comes with the plugs. Waves are pretty damn good, do you really need to spend the bucks on something better? And his plugs probably will not work with VST or DirectX. They make a VST-->RTAS convertor/wrapper, but I don't think they make one for the other way around.

What is your problem with waves? I think some of their plugins are really, really great.

get Waves. you want anything better look to spend a shit load of money...and if it comes to that, you'll be better of saving money and just getting a hardware unit or a better mic.
