Hi:
I was going to record with Pro Tools LE 7.4.2 and my MBox 2 Mini on a windows based computer, but since it is not supported by Windows 7, I'm back to recording on my Mac Book Pro. My issue is that since this Mac Book Pro can't be used for only recording, but has to be used a for number of other different functions I'm concerned about how well it will operate. Other than getting an external firewire hard drive with an Oxford Chipset that runs at 7200 rpm is there anything else that I can do to ensure that it operates well? Are there any problems that I should anticipate and how could I possibly fix them?
Thanks.

I use my Macbook all the time for Pro Tools LE, and for doing other work as well as coming on the internet.

Never have any problems in that respect.

It's a good idea to do the following:

Turn off dashboard & exposé etc.
Set the computer to NEVER sleep
Set screensaver to never come on
Select the option which says "Never put hard disks to sleep" or something along those lines.

When you're using Pro Tools make sure that Airport is turned off, and that bluetooth is off (unless you need it for mouse/keyboard).

Always plug the Macbook in to the power supply.

Don't run your interface through a USB Hub, and consider what other USB devices you have connected - for example Pro Tools wouldn't launch the other day because I had my Time Machine USB Drive connected (it's a Freecom drive). Printers could cause issue too.

This is of course assuming your interface is USB - but ideally I'd only have the interface and keyboard/mouse connected to USB, as well as the iLok (which can be put into the back of the Mac keyboards ;))

That's all I can think of for now, but you should be fine ;)

I use a regular macbook a lot of the time with LE and I just use a generic brand external USB 7200 RPMs extral drive and it runs great with no latency. I have a macpro for pro tools at work but my macbook works just fine at home, I only notice a difference when loading a bagillion plug-ins at once.

I know there's plenty of info out there for optimizing XP for DAW-related work, but is there anything for OSX?

I just wrote it!

There's a page either in the getting started guide, or on the Digi website I think.

I'll try and find it when I have time ;)

Ah I have a feeling the list should be bigger. The XP one is pretty big.

Thanks
