Greetings Everybody,

Wondering if someone can help this Pro Tools newbie out.

I am attempting to record a vocal track in Pro Tools, however after creating the track and getting a signal within ProTools and record enabling the track in the mixer and on the track when I press play and begin recording nothing is recording??

It creates the window on the track but there is no signal being recorded even though I can hear it in the headphones and see the track meter going up and down during the recording. I have the track record enabled but is there something else I am missing to get the software to capture the signal within ProTools?

I went step by step through a tutorial as well with no better results and I'm thinking I am missing something simple but imperative to get this to work.

Thanks in advance for anyones help.

I tested the mic and controller (Digidesign 003) using GarageBand and I was able to record using that software so I know that the wire and mic are working fine, just my setup must not be completely correct even though I am pretty sure I covered all my bases.

Thanks everyone!

Carl

record enabling the track in the mixer and on the track
Just to clear up the basics first,
You click one or the other; Not both.
They are linked together.

You have to record arm the track in question as above (either in mix or edit window), but you also have to hit record in the main transport before you hit play.

Sorry, I meant I clicked enabled record on the track and the player/transport prior to hitting play and it even say RECORD at the bottom of the Pro Tools screen, the software even begins to build the recording box which shows the level of the recording signal but the box is blank, empty, nada.

I think I did that but maybe I am confusing what the transport is, are you talking about the 003?

Thanks for your reply, I appreciate your trying to help!! :) Please bear with me because I am getting a bit frustrated because I was able to in fact lay down one track last week so I know the unit is working but I must be missing something that I did the first time but I truly did the same steps again the next day and for the last week and still can't figure it out.

THanks again for your help

The transport is the Play/Stop/Record button cluster in the upper right hand of the Edit screen. You need to arm the track and also hit the Record button on the transport, then press play (or space).

Yehp. Daves got it, although if you say it "begins to build the recording box" then you've done it right.

If you just hit record arm on a track, but don't actually record anything, can you see the meters move for that particular track?
(Protools should be stopped)

If not, you haven't assigned the correct input to your track.
