Just as a preface, first post: if I jack anything up just yell at me...

I've spent the last 2-3 weeks downloading, testing and creating a flat spot on me head... DAWs and for me, Pro Tools (10 was the ver I demo'ed) is the easiest for analog recording (rock/metal/alternative - don't see creating pure electronic anytime soon). Ergo I'm likely gonna buy PT; for those of you who are PT savvy- - -

Is there a dramatic difference between the M Powered V9 and the straight up package? I have a Delta 192 (which is AWESOME) PCI card so the interface is kinda moot and I'd rather not use the plastic box unless the latency is lower/same as the card. Side tracked.....

Is it worth the $300 ish difference in price between a MP package and the PT software that isn't tied to their hardware?

Really appreciate the assist in advance; I've been struggling with this one.
Cheers!

Hi there,

Here is a chart comparing the different versions. MP does have limitations I think, but you be the judge of whether or not they effect you.

Personally I'd go for the straight up ProTools just because I'd hate to be tied to Maudio hardware.

Having said that, if you don't see yourself changing interface for a long time, then it's your call.

Thanks Pete; being an old fart/curmudgeon in training I appreciate the suggestion. I pulled the trigger on a deal at Musicians Friend for PT 9 + Mbox mini (full software pack) and the mini box may just stay in the box. An upgrade to v10 is included. With their taxman discount twas like 460 (overnight)! Sweet (instead of paying 700).

Appreciate the sanity check; I'd have bought an MP and found later it didn't include the DigiBase interface to keep track of the effects/instruments/etc and that would have caused many wordy dirds to exit my mouth...
Cheers!

I have MP PT9

The two things that dtop me using it is that you have to automate volume on clips, most DAWs let you adjust gain per clip, PT10 allows this...and it can handle 48 tracks...my last tunes were both well over that

But ive used maudio interfaces for a while now and at $100 its pretty excellent if you were recording more traditional music
