I am tired of rebooting my PC to go between linux and w98SE.

I am thinking of running Pro Tools Free in a vmware vm (virtual machine). The only concern I have is that as vmware will not give direct hardware access to w98 (in the vm) to the hardware, there may be latency when recording. I guess this would mean that recording subsequent tracks they would not be in sync with the tracks recorded previously.

Has anyone tried running Pro Tools Free in a vmware vm on a linux box?

no. bit thats a pretty wild idea. appeals to the engineer in me.
give it a shot and see.
i'm hoping linux rules in 5 years. ive got some bets going with some fellow engineers on it.
