hello everyone I'm new to the forum, and been searching for a week now on a problem I have. Can't seem to find the answer I'm looking for, maybe because the software and hardware I'm using is outdated. LOL:eek: Anyways I used to record on Digi 002R and had plenty of track space for instruments coming in from reason and recording vocals (adlibs, hooks, hype tracks etc) but my 002r internal firewire card has gone out and I need to replace it(being lazy). I do however have a Digi001 spare for backup. Now here's my problem... I have a track limitation with the Digi001, and I've heard about bouncing some tracks together to free up some space, but to me I need individual volume faders for each track so I can blend the mix with the vocals beautiful. I used to(by the way I do hip-hop)bounced reason instrument(beat) as an wave than imported into pro tools as a stereo track. Than lay vocals on top of that, but didn't sound great unlike mixing the individual tracks with the individual vocals(does anybody understand?) So my question is can I just Aux income the reason signal (and not record on individual mono tracks)and than record my vocals, than bounce the mix and still get the instrument that's playing in reason to record on the final bounce??? Pro tools doesn't recognize aux as "voice tracks" so I can have unlimited of those! Does that make sense to someone who's familiar with reason rewire in pro tools? Or any other solutions you pro tools guru's have? Appreciate the patience of this long post! LV

Im not sure if this will be much,if any help but I have an Digi 001 and im running Protools 6.4 with Reason 2.5 and I only use Reason as a insert on a stereo audio track and it works fine.and when you mix your tracks down, the audio from reason will be mixed down with your other tracks that you have recorded. You can also insert plug-in's on the same track and they will effect reason's audio.Or if you want your instruments from reason to be on seperate tracks in Protools, you have to first in reason, route your instruments seperately into your input device at the top of your rack and then in Protools, you have to choose your input via "inserts" and choose the tracks your instruments are on,most likely stereo so like 1/2 3/4 ect..

okay

Do you mean insert as MIX L and R on the rewire plug onto a stereo track:confused: Also I know how to track my recordings from reason into pro tools but my problem was after I track them, I have no more track space for vocals, that's what I mean. Thanks for the reply SF Studios:)

There is no easy solution to your problem. You can upgrade PT and get the toolkit that lets you have more tracks in PT...What I have done in the past was to think out my mix...rewire reason into PT on an Instrument track..lay down the vocals..then begin thinking of what part of my mix I NEED in PT..if I think I can for example, create a mixer in Reason for my drums, send ALL my drums to that mixer, and patch in some compression or eq through the inserts on the mixer..I can take 10 tracks, mix them in reason, and only have 1 track (the mixer) coming in to PT..effectively creating a sub-mix group using a reason mixer, reason effects and only having to use one track in PT.

Hope that made sense..Essentially, all that I am saying is you may want to consider doing some of your mixing in Reason and some in PT. Obviously a lot of the Reason plug-ins don't sound as good as some of the third party plug-ins of PT..but with some proper planning and clever mixing you can most definitely make it happen.

Be wary though..this method uses a SHITLOAD of DSP.

I just tested loading Reason into an aux input track in PT 8 and it works fine as far as playback. I would say just load up your project into PT and then try adding reason on an aux input track.

koo

All right guys thanks for the input, I really Appreciate it. I consider doing some mixing in reason as far as the instrument goes, than bring it in into pro tools as a whole onto a stereo track thanks again!:D
