"Hi, I'm in Delaware."
I'm hoping at least one other person here has both Pro Tools M-powered and M-audio Jamlab, because I'm supposed to be able to route the GT Player Express software the Jamlab came with into Pro Tools so that I can record my guitar with the effects applied, but after skimming all the manuals I can find and many fruitless e-mails to tech support, I still can't figure it out. They just keep telling me it's in "the pro tools manual" (of which there are about 5), but I don't see anything about it anywhere. I understand that it's supposed to work as a plug-in that I insert on an instrument track or something, but the plug-in doesn't show up in pro tools. They said I had to install some VST version or something, so I followed their link and installed it, but it still doesn't work. This is extremely frustrating, and I don't know why they can't just tell me how. I'm hoping you guys are at least a little more reasonable than them. Any ideas? Thanks.

That's the problem, I don't see GT Software listed under my inserts. I have the reference guide, but I couldn't find anything about getting it to show up in inserts anywhere in there. M-Audio support told me I had to authorize it as a plug-in or something, but doesn't seem capable of telling me how, and I can't find it anywhere else. I downloaded the VST version of the program, but apparently I also need some sort of VST wrapper? Are these different things? Once I can get it to show up in Pro Tools I can figure out, but there doesn't seem to be an easy, self-explanatory reason how to do that. If they're going to advertise something as "Pro Tools compatible", there certainly ought to be.

Is there an RTAS version?

i'm not familiar with how Jamlab works with Pro Tools...but if there is then it either a) should be on the installation CD or b) already in your Pro Tools plugins folder. Check to see if you have it there first.

Double check each plugin in PT under inserts. You should also check mono AND stereo tracks separately (in stereo check under multi-mono and multi-channel plugins). It could be that Jamlab is ONLY a stereo plugin, only mono, and/or either multi-mono or multi-stereo. Plugin companies don't always make a plugin compatible for both stereo/mono.

It's not, it's not, and it's not on any menu for either stereo or mono. Ugh, this is such a pain.

well, then I doubt GT Player Express is an RTAS plugin. You probably have to use it via rewire. Read in your manual about the specifics but a quick glance shows me that GT Player allows you to use it's rewire player while utilizing Pro Tools as it's master. Directly out of your manual:

To use ReWire Player you need a ReWire-compatible slave application installed on your system (e.g. Digidesign Pro Tools, Steinberg Cubase, and more).
< Start GT Player as the first application with ReWire Player activated in the preferences.
< Start processing. (POWER button must be turned on!)
< Then start your favorite ReWire slave application and load a song or arrangement to it.

Tried it. If I have GT Player open first, Pro Tools thinks there isn't any hardware hooked up and won't start up.

It looks like Ableton Live Lite 4 or 5 can take VST plug-ins, and is also rewire compatible, correct? So in theory, it should be possible for me to route GT Player into Live and then rewire it to Pro Tools, right? In the interest of not being annoying, I imagine this is described somewhere in the manuals? Thanks guys, you rock.
