Ok, so I've been using Pro Tools since 3.x (TDM, HD, and LE) wherever I work. The trouble is, that all my work-related audio has been for radio and TV (not really music). I've been using Cakewalk since '95 to do all my midi and recording at home.

I recently fell into a pro tools system for my house (m-powered 8 with an m-audio 192), and I hear they've really expanded the midi.

Now, only people who have acutally USED Pro Tools for MIDI reply please...

Is it worth doing MIDI in Pro-Tools now? Should I really bother trying? And does it have instrument definitions?

I do use pro tools for midi but I am not a completely experienced midi expert. I have only used Reaper's midi other than pro-tools. I don't exactly delve very deep in either but from what I do, Pro-tools has a better workflow for me.

Hmmm. Thanks much for the input. I've never used Reaper's MIDI, so I have no idea what it's like.

I can say that although it works...Its not very user friendly...

That's pretty much what I'm trying to figure out. I'm getting way too tired of Sonar, and I'm not sure if I should bother with upgrading to PT8 at home yet. On our HD3 system at work, there's no MIDI devices, so I can't play around with it.

Basically, any MIDI guys out there on PT... is it all just marketing, or is it really all that much better? And are there instrument definitions? (I really don't want to mess around with bank number strings and such)

I think it depends what you want to do with your MIDI.

If you just want to using some soft synths, a bit of drum programing, it handles it fine. If you want to start getting really complicated and routing midi all over the place to control all sorts of things (like i've seen people do in Logic), then i would look somewhere else.
