All I can say is congratulations on finally catching up with everyone else PT users.

All the people in this video just discovered 'faster than real time offline bounce'.

Ohmahgerd offline bounces?! I can has my mixes faster?

$300 just to upgrade from PT10!:( I just saw yesterday that FL studio has free lifetime updates...what a difference...

That's the bit that keeps me on old versions.
I don't know how the other major DAWs are, but PT always just seemed expensive to upgrade.
I only moved to PT9 because I fluked an amnesty upgrade.

Never Henry! It's never going to end!

I hear they're planning to lift the limit on ADC in ProTools 34.

I just stumbled across a ten page thread at the DUC.
It was a bunch of lads who bought PT9 on student discount, or crossgraded from 8LE to PT9 on student discount.

Apparently they all got emails ages ago letting them know that their student discount package entitled them to four years of free upgrades (not updates), and as such, they're all running PT10 now.
Presumably they'll be running PT11 pretty soon too.

I own PT9 and bought it on student discount when PT9 was new, but I never got an email from avid about future upgrades.
Seems like it's a hell of a challenge to email or contact these people.

I contacted the retailer from whom I bought PT9 and he pretty much said AVID change their minds all the time and all he could do was sell me PT10/11.

Any thoughts?

Can you open a support ticket?
If the others are getting it you should be able to find someone at Avid that will provide you with at least a mercy upgrade to 10.

My eleven rack came with PT 8le with some sort of sideways upgrade to 9 that had an automatic upgrade to 10 (!).
I'm sticking at 10 for the time being, I would imagine that going to 64 bit is great for professional producers, but probably eats up available memory resources pretty quickly.

Hey Sam,
At the time the only thing I could see was some kind of support that I had to pay for!
I've since found an enquiry email address and they're looking into it.

Fingers crossed, huh?
I don't know how it works now but my account still has codes from PT 5.1 through to 8, even though I only bought in at 7.4.

I'm hoping if I get upgrades through to 11 I'll still have the 9+10 licenses on my ilok, just incase.

Good!
I remember now that the first 11R I bought only had 8 LE on it.
I returned it and bought a new box with 9 (+ free upgrade to 10) plus the 11R expansion pack on it.
One of the few deals that I have conducted through Sweetwater (the first unit was purchased at GC), and I'm glad I did.
They fixed me up right. :thumbs up:

Well, avid looked up my account and told me that I don't have a PT9 license.
They were able to list all my other licenses but no PT9.

It shows clearly in my account so I have sent them proof of purchase and a screen dump.
Hopefully there's been some mix up in their database and I'll get sorted. :)

I'll keep this posted.

Got another reply. They can now confirm that I do have PT9 - Not exactly a breakthrough. I've had it for a few years now.
Apparently my account looks 'fine' and they're now going to research what exactly went wrong.

I didn't reply to tell them but I'm not especially concerned about what went wrong.
So far they've taken three or four days on this, and another few days before that; I emailed to remind them.

Will be interesting to see if / when they get back to me again.

They don't appear to have much interest in retaining customers, particularly from the less expensive paths to upgrade, r.g. PTLE, PTMP, et al.

Steenamaroo,

Did you ever get the free student upgrade? If so was it 10 + 11? Just curious...

For the PT universe, the current Eleven Rack is definitely the way to go. You can buy PT10 for $699 or buy the 11R for $699 and it comes with PT. It's like buying PT and getting the 11R for free. Not too shabby in my book.
