I'm talking to Big Wheel Records over here in texas, and they looking to buy about 7-12 beats. The problem arises when my connect said that I should charge real cheap so that I can get the name heard all around, and they'll come back to me. So I was thinking 4-5 grand total for 12 beats. He told me that was too expensive... ($416 per beat @ $5K) I thought that pretty cheap... They talking about a G for 12 beats, so I said a G for 10 beats. But the reason why they wanted it so cheap is because I'll also be getting royalties. So it's either royalities & a g, or $5k and no royalities....

Big Wheel Records is a decent sized recording label. I dont' know who they directly under, but they doing stuff with big name artists. Reconization would be there if I decide to follow through. Album sales would hit around gold on all their artists. And within' the next 2 years, I predict they'll have at least 1 platinum project.

You should try to get in as much as you can up front but you HAVE TO get in on the publishing.

I'd say go with the 1k but I only know what the superproducers told me when I've asked them questions.

I suggest that you e-mail ask9th@gmail.com your question and you'll get a response from 9th Wonder, which you can read here.

I say do it for 1k and Publishing (I know I would)..

look at it like this they in Texas...down with DSR.. they will atleast push 150,000 cds in Texas alons..so you will be doin fine...

do that see how it works out for you..

or you can ask for 5K and just leave it like that and make sure you get credit so you can add the project to your portfoilio...

9th Wonder said he started out sellin beats for $50

this is real talk right here

When sending out beat-CD's, should I send out full beats or snippets?

It really doesn't matter, because snippets can be looped. I wouldn't send any out if I didn't have an established name, because someone can steal your work.

hmmm I'll take the 1K & publishing than... Hopefully they'll drop a platinum album, and I can get that new Lambo I always wanted :D Most likely the $$ would be recirculated within' Mindset to pay for other things.

they wont go platinum..but they will push about 300,000 +

ask them for 2K and publishing..and if they dont take that then do the 1K and publishing..

I know I worked a deal to get $600 and credit and publishing for the "Ghetto Freedom" track plus 2 others...and I was askiin 1K with credit and publishing...

gotta get in contact with the contact to make sure the deal is goin through..

dont be scared to ask how many units they have pushed from prior releases...that will give you a general ideal on what you will be lookin at in return..

That was gonna be my response...............
You'll be in a better position as far as determining how much your royalty checks may bring......... 'Cause you don't want to over bid and get scratched from the project. I have a partner that was in a similar situation, with a much smaller label. (But they had cashflow, I won't say how???:D:D)
But his style was much needed by the label, they played cat and mouse and finally gave him $3,200 for 10 cuts and royalties. (But like I said, they didn't move many units) But the good thing was, he had them in the archives anyways..............

Yeah, 2k and publishing or 1k with a higher percentage of publishing.

I was thinking about doing 2K & publishing, which you guys mentioned, and probably won't go under $1200 because the price for my beats would be like $100 per & that's wayyyyyyyyyy cheap... I'm going to go write the contract up in a minute. I'll probably start off at $2K.. but the % I'll have to look back into their priors and calculate myself.

btw the contact I have right now is Froze Ony & Dope Boy which are artists from them anyways. I'll have to speak with them & the producer's & hopefully their label ok's the whole deal (which they most likely will in the best interest of their artist).

good luck and keep us informed...

im sure the label has them on a bedget..this is why they tryin to get lower prices on the beats..to also recoup faster..lol... dont go higher then 5% on sales..the rest is up to you...

make sure you remeber to factory in Mechanical royalties (thats $0.091 per song <3 mins. on every song recorded and made)

Ya I agree with you guys. Do something like $1,300 for beats and get 2 points a CD or something. Cause 17 beats is a lot. Are you doing the whole album? Then I'd ask for 3 points. :D Lol. How big of a project is it? I'd look at that to see how much you may get back on the CD sale and copies. Then I go from there... Point out the facts and then you have a reason for charging what you're charging...

i think he need a higher percentage cause he is accepting a lower price then what he normally charge..and it seam like he supplying over half the tracks for the album..unless they doin a mixtape with 30+ tracks on it..

but that something he need to work out with them..

one day i will be able to be in a conversation like this

Im wt D Ease on that one lol....... i kno i could get in it but it wouldnt help much

Yeah I'll be supplying over half of the album. It'll be around 16-17 tracks I'm guessing. I'm thinking of like 3.5-4 points + $1500-2k, I won't go lower than $1.25K & 2.5-2.8 points. That's my absolute minimum lol. Anything lower, I might as well give them it for free. I was also thinking, throwing in 2 extra beats for a total of 14 tracks at $1.8K & 3.5% to make the deal look 'sweeter'. Dope Boy turns 35 today lol.

I usually would charge $800 minimum depending on the beat it'll be higher. This would be a MAJOR discount.

BTW Dope Boy is Dough Boy, but we call him Dope boy down here lol

I got to send paperwork their way now. Final deal ended up being 12 tracks, 1 production of the track by me, 3 points, and $3,750. Then on top of that I'm giving them 2 extra beats to guarantee future business (Froze Ony soon to be upcoming album).

There was a LOT of negotiation. They were talking about $1,500 & 3 points or $2500 str8 up. I told them that I need more cash because the fact that they do sell off the streets, so those are not scanned & I might not even see a dime from those sales. So I called extra cash, will the 3 points & I told them I'll throw in 2 extra beats to be able to seal a future deal in production of Froze Ony's album he got coming, which would be a minimum of 5 beats.
