when u look at what they are capable of and the complex equations involved (i think thats right) its quite understandable. When we look at what we can do on our home pc's because of the introduction of software like cubase it really is quite amazing. But also ten or twenty years ago large scale multitracking (by this i mean 16 tracks up)was way out of the reaches of the common musician. Yet now programs like samplitude will hold 600 tracks, im not kidding i tried it last night, but im sure NASA's mainframe computer would probly crash under that sort of load , but hey its cool to dream of working on that sort of scale. Im sure years ago that sort of technology cost a lot more than it does now and no doubt will cost a lot less in the future. But as a struggling engineer i do agree that the prices are steep but hey if it gives me what its given me so far then ill live with it , for now anyway . Theres some good free multitrackers out there i believe. Cool edit has a functional demo i think , theres a few others too.
