here's my situation (and any suggestions will help):
i want a set up to record on a mac laptop. i haven't bought it yet, but it will probably be a g4 (and i have to buy a mac to be compatable with other work).
i want to get an interface with four inputs. i would like to record stuff on my teac 40-4 (4 track reel to reel) and then dump them onto the laptop. i would then like to record over dubs straight onto the laptop (avoiding any timing errors that would be present if i used the reel to reel more than once). what would be a good interface? i have several outboard preamps, so the interface doesn't really need to have any. is usb okay if you're going to be recording four simulatanious tracks?
also, what would be good software? i don't really need anything fancy (like midi), just a nice graphical editor.
i'll mostly be recording myself and one other person (so four inputs shouldn't be a problem). the type of music is sort of experimental rock. the sound quality doesn't have to be the best, but i would like it to be nice.
thanks for any help (if i've been unclear in anyway, i can try to explain better).
also, will i run into problems using this computer for audio as well as visual things (photoshop, etc.)?
thanks again.
