Presonus VXP

I am looking for two things currently to help my recordings. One is a new pre-amp and the other a limiter for a final boost. I noticed this has both amongst other things but these are the two main points I am looking at. Anyone with some use with this piece shed some light for me. I am kinda stumped when it comes to limiters and how they work exactly cause I pretty much do everything with my computer and plug-ins. But is it a possibility to run my completed track thru the limiter and then back into the computer with more volume(and still quality sound) with this specific piece. Thanks a lot in advance.

I've used the VXP quite frequently... fairly neutral sounding... the on-board limiter is more for brickwall limiting than adding "punch".....

If your stuff is already on a .wav file, and you're already used to using plugins and what not, then why not just use a limiter plugin like Waves L1 or Timeworks Mastering Compressor?

What you're talking about doing will probably do more harm than good. You're degrading the sound with yet another D/A and A/D conversion . . . just so you can run it out to a cheap outboard limiter? Am I even reading your question correctly?

I had a feeling that was the case with the limiter but wasn't sure if there was a plugin out there up to the task. I will try those plugin's and I am pretty sure I will go with the vxp for the pre amp. Thanks guys

I used the VXP (even endorsed by Presonus... Yippeeee!) on my band's debut album...

I love the thing for what it is... decent sounding and easy to use. The compressor on it doesn't really do over the top compression (if you ever want really heavy compression), but its nice for what it is.

The limiter wouldn't work for you as a mastering limiter, because its only a mono channel... for any type of "final" limiting you'd need a stereo unit.

I'd also agree with the others that there are far nicer products you can fine to use as plug ins if you are already in a computer format.... but for a mic preamp, its a good unit.
