I have an MBOX with focus rite pre's

I'm considering getting this cheap presonus tubepre. how would it compare to just sticking with my mbox's pres? is it worth the money? i'm recording mostly guitars and vocals.
 
Your mbox is probably as good or better. The tube in that tubePRE isn't really going to do anything so you might as well go with a clean pre. If you're gonna dish out the money, get somethng a bit better like a dmp3 or rane ms1b. $50 more and a huge difference.
 
You're probably better off putting the money into a nice mic. What are you using right now?

I own a Presonus BlueTube and it has much more noise and unwanted distortion than a Mackie 1202VLZ. It also picks up radio signals, unlike any other gear I have. There's got to be better out there for $100-$150.

Focusrite makes really good preamps. The Presonus just won't come close. I have one. It can actually warm things up OK compared to a stock mixer pre, but its a "starved plate" circuit, which just "tickles" the tube. Not enough to even be considered a true tube preamp. If you're looking for clean, go on eBay and search for a Symetrix sx202. If you get lucky, you can get it for under $200 and is a fantastic little solid state dual pre. The kind that lets the sound of the mic come through. Great with a tube mic.
 
I also have a couple of the TubePre's. You could do a lot better. For only $100......well you get what you pay for. That being said, I haven't had a problem with the radio signals, and they do can do a little bit of warming up, as already said, but beyond that...... I would just get some better preamps (as I am going to), or just stick with the MBox pre's
