Presonus Inspire 1394 vs Tascam US-122 USB or perhaps Edirol UA-25 or other?

After settling for the M-Audio FireWire Solo, it didn't work for either of my two PC systems operating on Windows XP SP2. After 3-4 days of many attempts of calling M-Audio tech support and going out to the store to buy brand new firewire cards, still no luck. I guess MY specific M-Audio FireWire Solo version must not work on Windows or something. The volume/input is just way too low for some odd reason. So I'm gonna return it and swap it with something similar in the price range (around $200). I was looking at the Presonus Inspire 1394 and Tascam US-122. What are the differences between the two? I noticed there are some odd things with the Presonus Inspire, but a few more negative reviews with the Tascam (probably the fact that Inspire is still new, so there aren't many reviews whether good or bad AT ALL).... Upon looking, what confused me was the RCA outputs, unbalanced jacks or something, and 1/4" norm vs 1/8" headphone jack... Also, I noticed there isn't any control knobs/switches on the external preamp on the Inspire. It seems you can only turn up control in the Mixer/Control Panel.... I guess that means more hassle, perhaps?

I just recently also glanced at the Edirol UA-25. It seems to be $20 more expensive than both of the Tascam & Presonus, but relatively new. and possibly some others that I may have not known.

Anyways, which out of these three do you think would suit me best? After FireWire Solo failed, I must reconsider something else... or do you think there's something even better than these three? Thanks.

What exactly wasn't working about the FireWire Solo? If it was due to a Firewire issue, that may play a part in future purchases. Did you update all the drivers for the product, as well as for your chipset? With external devices like that, you need to make sure the computer plays nice.

I helped a friend look at some interfaces recently, and I like what I'm seeing from Edirol. I haven't used them hands on and can't comment on the sound quality, but the build quality looks fantastic and the feature set that you are getting is also worth the price.

I'm using an EMU 1820, so I can't really help you there.

Also, what kind of computer do you have (processor, motherboard, manufacturer vs. home built, desktop vs. laptop)?

Do you have Firewire integrated on the motherboard or do you require external cards? Do you have USB 1.1 or 2.0?

That would help determine whether you should go Firewire or USB.

Not FireWire issue. I don't know what the cause of the problem was exactly. But the input volume was ultra low. I've tried replacing the FireWire card and contacing M-Audio Tech Support. They couldn't help me.

I have two PC computers with Windows XP SP2 with latest updates on EVERYTHING. I've built many computers, so I know my hardware/software in and out. Both computers have USB 2.0.
