Hello, just got a Presonus Inspire firewire thing a majig and cannot get it to work.

I installed the CD that came with it, got the updated driver from the website and my computer still won't acknowledge that there is any sort of device plugged into the firewire...

I have never used anything firewire before. At this point I am assuming something is wrong with the firewire... Is there a way to activate it or update it from some Microsoft bug... ?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Try it this way,

Turn off PC
Plug in the device to the PC
Restart PC with device power off
When PC is fully booted then turn on device
New Hardware wizard should run and install drivers.

Hope this helps

Do you have any other firewire devices, such as an external hard drive that uses firewire? Test to see if those other devices work, thus you can narrow down the problem and see if it lies in your firewire card or elsewhere. If the problem is not in your firewire card, perhaps it is the Inspire itself. I seem to recall that people had problems with Fireboxes that were just duds, so perhaps there are similar issues with Inspires. Might have to exchange it.

If you've never used a FireWire device before and you're running SP2, you may need one of the FireWire "hot fixes" from Microsoft.

Are you using a f/w connection on your motherboard, or a firewire pci card?

Sometimes the mobo implementation is a bit dodgy, and you'll only get it to work with a pci card. If you do buy a card, make sure it's got the Texas Instruments chipset as these generally seem to work most reliably
