Okay, so i'm considering buying the PreSonus FP10 FireWire Recording Interface, I currently have a verison of Cubase on my computer, and I am about to switch my operating system to Linux so it's more stable.

My question is if i purchase this, will i be able to record directly from this to my computer through a firewire out from the interface. I know it has 8 mic inputs on it, and if it does allow me to go dirrectly into my computer through firewire will i have 8 seperate channels on my recording software or will i still only have a left and a right like a usb interface.

I understand that i may sound ignorant to the subject, but i just stumbled upon some money, and want to start recording at more of a professional level then i am currently recording at.

find a used firepod and youll save about half that

It brings all eight channels in individually. And while I'd normally suggest going with something from MOTU, the FP10 actually is somewhat supported in Linux (with FreeBoB), so it's not a bad choice for you.

That said, if your computer isn't stable in Windows, it probably won't be stable in Linux in my experience. Try replacing the RAM....
