Im tempted into buying the presonus firepod. The reason mainly because i want to record my drums onto my computer and this thing has 8 inputs so it would allow me to to do. Would it allow me to have each of these in a seperate track?

1 kick
1 snare
2 toms
2 cymbals

But im wondering if these pre amps that are onboard are really good? Is there something i should know about this firewire interface. A good bang for the buck?

thats the same reason i got it. & probably the same as most people. being able to mic everything on a seperate track & get the best mix you can later.
& yes, that's what it does.

this is a very rough mix, but this is what i did yesterday.

the guitars are just there for refrence, they're meant to be kinda low.

that's 12 tracks of recording. 2 drum overheads, 2 tom mic's, snare, kick, hats, then each guitar channel has 2 different mic's on it (each on a seperate channel).

I looked at it but got the Tascam FW-1884 instead. AMS has them for $1000.00 right now which is a steal.

Pre amps

How are the pre amps on the firepod are they good enough or should you focus on another pre amp/

The firepod pres are very clean and safe sounding... they dont color the sound very much at all. If thats the sound you're after, then they should be enough. Otherwise, start looking for pres that will help you get the sound you need.

hey Avoidtheclap, what kind of mic's did you use on that recording?

audiotechnics kick drum mic for the bass, their drum mic for the floors & snare. senheiser 815s for the rack toms. mxl 993 for the left overhead, 991 for the right. & 990 for the hats.

cool, thanks.
Let me know if you make anymore recordings
