Anyone have one of the Presonus Channel Strips? I am thinking about getting one for tracking vocals and such. I seen a studio video of Whitechapel that the engineer was using a 300 dollar Presonus Channel Strip for tracking their vocalist. I do alot of metal band recordings, so I thought that this may be a good investment for my needs.

Let me correct this, it is called the Presonus Studio Channel. Anyone have one?

I have one - and have used is for male rock/pop vocals.

I consider it a decent low/middle price point piece of gear.

Right on, is there something better for the price, that is the real question I suppose?

i've not tried the Studio Channel, but in the same price range the presonus eureka channel strip is awesome. otherwise, imo, for the price it may be worth looking at a separate mono preamp and compressor i.e the GAP pre 73 and the FMR RNC would come in about the same price and give great results, although you are then missing the EQ section (although the presonus EQ3b is a pretty nifty standalone EQ and the three together would still fit in one rack slot and give great results)

I have been hearing all about the GAP pre73, what's the deal? Are they really that good? I know they are definitely in my budget, I just can't believe people rave about a 350 dollar preamp. I kinda think that they wouldn't really suit my purpose. I am primarily a metal guy, all the bands I work with are metal bands. I know alittle about the 73, I know it is based off of a Neve, but I just assumed that it would be more tailored for pop, country, acoustic stuff, not really death metal vocals/guitar and such. I know it is kind of vintage voiced, give me some feedback, I would like to know more about it. The reason I asked about the Presonus is because I know it gets the results I want for not alot of money, but if the GAP is better and will do what I need for a similar price then I'm on board.
