Hi everyone,
If the compressor will help me get better live recordings I'll use it.
At the moment I'm trying to get a good stereo recording of my bands rehearsals. The recordings have been coming out informative enough (without the compressor) to hear vocals, both electric guitars, bass, and a drum machine through the PA. I just added the compressor into the signal chain and will start experimenting with getting a good balanced mix if possible. Any compressor settings to get me started would be helpful.
The bass has been the most troublesome instrument, always being too loud and boomy on the recordings though sounds good to all the musicians in the room context while playing.
Here's my setup:
mics -(2) Oktava 012's > ART Tube MP Preamp(2 channel) > Presonus ACP22 compressor > Mackie 1202 mixer > Philips CDR880 standalone CD recorder.
