I've been happily using the pres in my Mackie 8 buss for the last eight years. So a little while back I picked up the Langevin DVC and realized that quality pres make a huge difference. This creates a quandry of sorts. Since picking up the DVC, I've used it for the snare and kick and using the board pres for cymbals, hi-hat and toms. I'm thinking that it would be wise to pick up another four channels of quality pres to use when micing a kit. I would like to havesome variety so while I love the DVC, I'd like a different flavor. Suggestions for four more tracks of pres? What works especially good for drums? I am recording country/Texas music.

Perhaps some Neve 1081's

If you're looking for a transformer "sound", I'd say the API 3124 or 4 of one of the Old School Audio preamps.

If you're looking for a transformerless Class A "sound", I'd say 4 Buzz Audio MA-1.5 preamps.

If you're looking for a transformerless, naturally transparent, "lack thereof sound", I'd say a DaviSound TB-6.
