I just discoved this site, it gives average prices for 2nd hand musical gear by analyzing ebay sale prices.

http://www.prepal.com

For example -

Otari

MTR10 $477
MTR12 $710
MTR90 (24 Track) $3505
MX5050 $310
MX5050 mkIII $536
MX70 $1773

I think their averages are inflated. I've never paid as much as what they say is the average. I doubt many others have either.

Still, it is a good site to get a ballpark figure for an item to keep from getting screwed.

Hohoho, so TR-909's are more expensive than 808's nowadays.

Hang on to that puppy. Prices continue to rise on the TR-909.

It's a good investment even if you don't use it any longer.

I love it and will never sell it. Not only it it punchy, and nice to use live (not that I ever do) but it's *big*. :-)

Well, it's a completely different beast altogether. But my short experience with an R-5 was very positive, I remember that.

Hi Senn, say, I don't know if your into using the computer for drum tracks, but I was just turned on to the most amazing sounding non real drums that sound real. In the cakewalk forum(oops, can I dare say that here?)I'm not into digital, but using the computer for drum tracks is OK for me. Paul881 turned me on to a thread with a link to a site with a thousand different soundfonts. Must be 100 different drumtracks, alot of them from old and new analog and digital machines, and a lot of "real" drums. I pulled one of them(Drumset Gold) into Cakewalk, and configured it for the soundfonts, and hit play. Sheeeeeeeeeeez. What a surprize. No more stiff, electronic sounding drums. I swear it sounded real. At least to me. Thought I would turn you on to them if your interested. I think this is the link to the thread. Read the first post.

909 has been the most sought for a while...

Which is why all good studio folk rented one at some point and sampled it at 48K 24 bits :)
